Celebrating our 100'th Post

The Bollard, The Strand and The Pendulum.

As you may have noticed I have started to take pictures of bollards. For those not in the know with this somewhat bizzare word a “Bollard” is an upright pole that prevents people from driving cars where they aught not to go. Like this:

A Bollard

I do not know quite why I am doing this. (All pictures of Bollards) Also uploaded were todays photos.

Today I tried to visit the science museum, however this did not work as I entered just as it was closing, oops. It rained today and I spent half an hour walking around London looking for Sainsbury; no one seems to know where Sainsbury is located. Not the police, not the Tube people, no one. I am beginning to suspect that it does not exist.

Transit still is causing problems as the Circle and District lines halted today due to a signaling fault. This resulted in an elaborate detour via Picadilly Line. After Circle and District reopened Northern Line slowed to a near standstill and is still delayed endlessly at this time. Last I heard people were being put on buses. Victoria Line is now refusing to stop at Victoria station, and it really means it, unlike Circle Line’s nonsense on the 3′rd.

Today we visited Bush House which, incredibly, really is named after a distant relative of George W Bush. Most of Bush House is occupied by the BBC’s foreign public broadcaster World Service Radio (which we learnt is part of the “Global News Division” and is sister to the BBC World Television, although the latter is commercial.) I asked our guide (I have her card) two questions, I asked about the World Service’s censorship problems (Russia has completely shut them down and has also shut down their partners; China blocks them completely, even over the internet; and they are having problems in Pakistan, which have resulted in a lawsuit against the Pakistani government by the BBC and its partners.) My other question was about the relation between World Service and BBC World.

By the way, you can listen to the World Service live and to its flagship Newshour program. I also have a great picture of myself outside Bush House.Tomorrow we go to Bath and Stonehenge. Don’t forget to check out all of todays photos.Tomorrow we

  1. I hope you are allowed to take pictures of Stonehenge. but what, may I ask, does this have to do with broadcasting?
Oh, and did you remember that today was dad’s bday?
    just wondering:)
